William Fichtner Saddles Up For The Lone Ranger

William Fichtner is the next actor to saddle up for Disney’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. He’ll be replacing Dwight Yoakum after he had to drop out due to scheduling issue.

Fichtner will be playin Butch Cavendish, the ruthless leader of a bunch of outlaws. Frankly I can’t think of a better person for the role – Fichtner can be relied upon to give good villain and there’s something about him which is reminiscent of a young Christopher Walken, high praise indeed.

He’s the latest in a long list of heavy hitters that includes Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp as Tonto, James Badge Dale as the Ranger’s older brother Dan Reid and Helena Bonham Carter as a brothel madam.

Gore Verbinski, who notched up some experience with dusty westerns (albeit in its animated form) with Rango last year (which is currently sitting pretty with an Oscar nomination), is out there shooting right now for a May 31st 2013 release.

Fichtner’s been rather busy of late, having just finished on Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium and on Phantom which he’ll star in with David Duchovny and Ed Harris. He’ll also be seen in Wrong, Quentn Dupieux’s follow-up to homicidal tire caper Rubber.
