X Factor Derry’s First (Criminal) Record Prevents Him From Entering US

X Factor hopeful Derry Mensah has been banned from joining Kelly Rowland in the US for the judge’s house stage of the competition after he was refused entry the US following a criminal conviction.

Mensah, who has previously been jailed for robbery, declared his love for Rowland on last Saturday’s episode of the show and was hoping to be mentored by the subject of his affections. However, despite sailing through the boot camp stages of the competition, tough US immigration laws mean that even with the voice of an angel, his devilish criminal past means he probably wouldn’t have been allowed in.

Speaking about the situation, a source close to the singer said: “Derry was gutted, as it would be a dream come true for him to be mentored by Kelly. When he said on Saturday he loved her, he wasn’t kidding.”

And with the 20-year-old applying for a visa that is almost certainly going to be rejected, X Factor bosses have bent the rules for the singer, allowing Derry to travel to Greece with Tulisa who is mentoring the bands following Rowland’s insistence that he would work better vocally in a group. Gary Barlow will take the boys group to Robbie Williams’ LA pad next week, and the Destiny’s Child singer will mentor the girls in Florida next month with either Usher or P Diddy. Eager Louis Walsh has already completed his round with the older singers last week in Barcelona.

X Factor continues this Saturday 8.15pm.
