BNTM: We Talk To Amelia…

Welsh beauty Amelia Thomas crashed out of Britain’s Next Top Model last night after the contestants argued, posed and shopped their way across Malaysia. We caught up with her this afternoon to talk about Welsh fashion, her confidence issues and her admiration for Alicia ‘the next Naomi Campbell’ White (you can decide if that’s a compliment or not)…

Going to Malaysia must have been fantastic…

Yes it was, but I don’t think I embraced it as much as I could of done. Every week I thought I was going, I was always full of nerves and by that stage I felt like I was in a rut and I couldn’t get out of it. The girls were all supportive but they were saying that anyone who wasn’t happy should probably go home. While it was meant within the context of Alisha, what they were saying was still true. The atmosphere was getting pretty heated but I’ll always look back at it as one of the best experiences of my life, but it was very very tough.

So was there anyone in the competition you didn’t get one with?

No no no, I got on with everyone! I was happy to go when I did because it was starting to heat up. I didn’t want to be in the position where I was looking back and thinking that I shouldn’t have got involved in this or that. Every little argument, every single little thing is blown out of proportion when you’re in a situation like that and you feel that you’ve got to get your own opinion across, you don’t want to look like a gooseberry in the corner..

Of course not! Now Alisha is one of the favourites to claim the title but she does seem a little bit pushy..

I think she’s absolutely amazing! She was so self-assured and that helped me to cope with my nerves at times. Looking back and looking at what I could have been like in the competition, I’ve learned loads from her. I just think she should be an inspiration for people instead of people just moaning about her…

It sounds like you got on like a house on fire! But we know that she doesn’t get on so well with some of the other girls still in the competition. Do you think she’ll miss you?

Yes I think it will be more difficult for her now and I think she’ll miss me. But she’s a very strong-minded girl, she’ll still do well because she’s got inner belief and that’s what it’s all about now. Elle was talking about how the competition has become more than just about a girl’s face and body, it’s about how strong her will is and I was the weakest link in that department. But it’s all a learning curve and I think that if I’d pushed myself I could have gone a lot further..

Do you think some of the girls left in the competition are intimidated by Alisha?

Well yeah because it’s a competition and she is the strongest competitor. But at the end of the day, all the girls left in the competition are the ones with the harder heads and those were always the ones that were going to end up sticking around the longest. Obviously there’s talent there as well but some girls don’t mind stepping on people’s toes you know? Alisha’s not like that as a person, but it is the name of the game from now on…

If Alisha doesn’t win, who do you think should be Britain’s Next Top Model?

If it wasn’t Alisha? Ermm… I just want to see Alisha become Britain’s Next Top Model. I just think she inspires people and that’s what’s going to get you the furthest in this industry..

I see. Have you received a lot of attention from people back home in Wales since the show started?

Yeah when I’ve been back there a lot of people have come up to me and said how well I’ve been doing. I think people respect the whole ‘small town girl’ thing and they’ve been coming up to me saying hello and asking for photos, which is nice. I’m moving to London in November though because there’s not much in the way of fashion in Wales…

There certainly isn’t..

(laughs).. No I mean it’s just London is the place to be if you really want to crack the modelling industry. Welsh people are very fashionable!

Thanks Amelia and good luck…
