The group of production companies responsible for The Tudors have assured us that this fourth series will be the final outing for Jonathan Rhys Meyers and his pals. We think that’s a bit of shame because although Henry was the most interesting monarch of this (or any other era), his various children were far from dull and definitely worthy of a bit more screen-time. Yet we remember that the sprawling historical drama Rome was cancelled a few years back due to massive filming costs, which could explain the curtailment of this excellent historical drama. Anyway, the new series concentrates on Henry’s fifth and sixth wives; the ill-fated Katherine Howard and her successor Catherine Parr. There’s also a war with France chucked in for good measure. Standard.
