What The Hell Is.. Todd and the Book of Pure Evil?

You could be forgiven for assuming that this is a cautionary tale from one of those fundamentalist Sunday schools, but you’d be wrong because it’s a TV series. A TV series that’s coming to SYFY this evening..
Hmm.. sounds rather contemporary. I assume there won’t be any butlers, wealthy heirs or put-upon posh people?
You assume right mate, but there will be.. “rock n’ roll zombies, bad-ass monster babies and a rampaging penis with a God complex”. If you need a taster, in this first episode, Todd makes a bully’s ass bleed with a guitar solo..
Whatever will you kids think of next..
Coming from someone who enjoyed Young Carpenter of the Year, that’s quite rich..
Now there’s a show that’ll never be deleted from SKY+! But we’re digressing, please explain what this latest teen-ridden effort is all about. It isn’t American is it?
No, it’s a Canadian comedy-horror series which is currently in its second series over in North America, which starts out as your normal teen-series (loser boy wants fit girl etc etc) but then morphs into something almost Buffyish..
Oh I enjoyed that series!
Yes she was good-looking wasn’t she? But back to this series, which is based on the film of the same title by show-runner Craig David Wallace. Todd and his friend Curtis are students at Crowley High, the only high school in a small town secretly founded by Satanists.
What?
In a bid to impress a lady, Todd seeks out the Book of Pure Evil, which grants the wishes of those who hold it in dark and sinister ways they didn’t intend. Each episode revolves around a student at the school using the Book to try to make their life better. Cue chaos..
Are there any ladies involved?
Yeah of course. One of which Todd is trying to get into and another nerdy one who wants to get into him. The one he fancies has some history of her own with the book..
So is it any good.
It’s not quite as edgy as it would have you believe, but Todd and the Book of Evil is great fun with some excellent writing. Think Scott Pilgrim vs The World in TV form.. kind of.
