Personally, I’m normally very hesitant of American adaptation of works that are not American. Years of reviewing Japanese animation have caused me to be weary (see the forthcoming US film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role). Hopefully there will be less problems with this adaptation of the Australian novel by Liane Moriarty, which has transposed to the story to California. At a school fundraising event a mysterious death occurs and soon all kinds of differences between the lead characters begin to emerge, leading to the possibility of murder. The series stars Reese Witherspoon as housewife Madeline, Nicole Kidman as her friend Celeste and Shailene Woodley as Jane, who has recently moved into the neighbourhood. Big Little Lies is on Sky Atlantic at 21.00.
