Amy Adams - known for her work in the DCU films, The American Hustle and 2016's Arrival - puts her spin on the somewhat clich\u00e9d "troubled detective\/reporter returns to where it all began to solve a crime" archetype, taking up the role of Camille Preaker in this small-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's 2006 breakout novel of the same name. Joining Adams amongst the cast, Chris Messina becomes detective Richard Willis while Patricia Clarkson dons the mantle of Camille's mother, Adora Crellin. Camille Preaker is a troubled investigative journalist who has been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital after years of self harm. Now returning to her old hometown to investigate the murders of two teenage girls, ghosts from Camille's past begin to crop up forcing the young crime reporter to face her own inner demons under the watchful eyes of her mother, Adora, and her half sister, Amma.
