Okay, okay I know it's another in the annoying trend of strong European cinema flicks that have been regurgitated by Hollywood for mass consumption. However, that shouldn't detract from what is still a pretty good film - whether you've read Stieg Larsson's book or seen Niels Arden Oplev's disturbing 2009 adaptation. Daniel Craig plays an investigative journalist who flies to close to the flame and gets burnt, with his reputation in tatters he is approached by a wealthy magnate to solve the mystery of his missing granddaughter. Into a murky and dangerous world of family intrigues and long-hidden secrets he treads, enlisting the help of hacker/goth/social warrior Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) to help shed light on the young heiress's fate. However, when a story is adapted from Scandi noir, you can be assured there will be an unsettling sub plot to keep you on the edge of your seat. David Fincher's direction is pitch perfect and he manages to deliver the grisly work of a serial killer and the family's neo nazi loyalties into the mix while maintaining the film's credibility.
