Don't Look Up is a brilliantly realised satire that takes aim at climate change indifference in Government and the media, the advance of populism and our diminished ability to think critically. Playing on Netflix, this is an absolute gem with a stellar ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep and Mark Rylance. If you read the Guardian and saw their two-star review it is they with the smug superiority complex not this film. Part comedy - part soul destroying ode to a dying planet this is the tale that starts with excitement within the geeky astrophysics faculty of Michigan State University as a new comet is discovered. That excitement is soon tempered when the numbers are crunched on how close a look we'll get of the comet as it passes earth. It seems we're going to go the same way as the dodo and the dinasaurs as the 5km wide comet is on a collision course to hit us in six months time. Professor Mindy (DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence) tell their tale of doom to anyone who will listen but their story falls on deaf ears at the Whitehouse as the brilliant Meryl Streep's President Janie Orlean (in a less than subtle prod at Trumpist nepotism) and Jonah Hill as her son/Chief of Staff Jason create a circus around short-term political gains. Look out for Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey and Cate Blanchett.
