The UK’s biggest and most successful true crime documentary series continues its new run, featuring unprecedented access behind the scenes of police investigations into major crimes. This episode, The Horror House,is the first of a two-part special concerning an investigation into a man who sexually prayed on scores of young people in Luton. The case eventually becomes Bedfordshire Police’s largest ever operation into historic abuse; but it starts with a detective, Rachael Foy, working in the Child Sexual Exploitation unit, hearing the testimony of a victim and deciding to investigate for herself. She quickly discovers that the first victim is not alone, that many have suffered at the hands of her suspect, and that the man has been arrested eight times previously for sexual offences but has never been convicted. She embarks on a three-year journey inside the biggest and hardest case of her career. Cameras follow every twist and turn as she realises how hard it will be to get justice. It isn’t enough to persuade the victims to speak up; she needs to make sure that their evidence is compelling enough to persuade a jury. As the investigation nears its conclusion, Rachael fears that once again the victims might not be believed, while also beginning to pose deeper questions about why their suffering had been ignored. This is the inside track on a gripping and disturbing case, which sees the detective come face to face with the accused when he is brought in for a voluntary interview. The story concludes next time as new victims come forward and the investigation reaches its dramatic end.
