Doctors perform extraordinary surgery on babies while they’re still inside the womb. Filmed across a year in one of the UK’s leading foetal medicine units, Baby Surgeons: Delivering Miracles tells the stories of pregnancy and childbirth through the eyes of the women and the medical teams who treat them. In this episode, Zoe’s unborn baby has a large cyst on its neck, meaning that it may not be able to breathe for itself once it’s born. To give the baby the best chance of survival, doctors must attempt a fetoscopic procedure which has never been performed in the UK before. Jenn is 16 weeks pregnant and is carrying monochorionic twins, a very rare type of high-risk twin pregnancy. Jenn and her partner must face the agonising decision as to whether they should intervene to end the life of one twin in order to try to save the life of the other. Latifah, who’s 22, is spontaneously pregnant with triplets. Facing motherhood alone, Latifah’s pregnancy is medically complex and she must make personal sacrifices in order to prioritise the health of her unborn babies.
