Britain’s Forgotten Wars with Tony Robinson: Gulf: A Storm in the Desert

Tony Robinson's Forgotten War
Tony Robinson's Forgotten War

After World War II, Britain and her allies were embroiled in several serious conflicts around the world, many of which are largely forgotten by the public. In this six-part series, Tony Robinson explores the forgotten conflicts he lived through: The Suez Crisis, The Bosnian War, The Gulf War, The Korean War, The Malayan Emergency and The Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya. The first episode looks back on when Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait in August 1990, and the world reacted with condemnation. Operation Desert Storm was launched, and a war was waged by coalition forces from 35 nations across the world. This conflict became one of the first to be televised live across the globe. Downed Tornado pilot John Peters and many others tell the forgotten stories of the people who fought to drive Saddam Hussein’s army back to Baghdad, not knowing that they would be back again over a decade later.
