Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers – aka the titular hero – in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first-ever female-led superhero movie. We first meet her in the mid-90s on a faraway planet called Hala, home to the Kree Empire. There, she’s part of an elite warrior army named Starforce, and has an array of powers including flight and super strength. But all is not well. She’s been having recurring nightmares about her military training, including flashbacks to what seems to be a past life on Earth. In the middle of an operation to rescue an undercover Kree agent from a race of alien shapeshifters that they’re at war with, Danvers is captured by Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the terrifying enemy commander. He wants to extract her memories and use the intel for his own nefarious plans. But these are scuppered when Danvers manages to escape, crash-landing in Los Angeles. This alerts SHIELD agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and he’s sent to investigate. With Fury’s help, the pair set out to uncover Danvers’ earthling past. Unfortunately, Talos is never far away.
