Carabao Cup Final: Football on Five - Preview

With the premiership in full swing and both FA cup and European footballs providing their fair share of thrills and spills, it becomes somewhat easy to forget or overlook the Carabao cup as a major domestic honor in English football with many a fan off handedly shrugging off its importance, relegating it to the status of a “Mickey Mouse cup.” However two men who will be making no such underestimations on Sunday afternoon will be Arsene Wenger of Arsenal and Pep Guardiola of Manchester city.

The league leaders take on 6th place Arsenal in this heavyweight clash with both teams raring to get their hands on the first piece of silverware of the 2017/18 season. For Wenger the clash represents his arsenal career with this being, arguably, his last chance to save his job and prolong his reign at the emirates and will be encouraged by the club’s recent acquisitions of former Borussia Dortmund stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. For Guardiola, on the other hand, it represents the possibility of still winning 3 major trophies in one season following their disappoint FA cup result against Wigan Athletic on Monday. For both teams, this match offers a massive morale boost and for that reason both will want to take the game by the horns from the first whistle until the last, making this a clash which is not to be missed.

Collin Murray presents highlights from the clash.
