Writer and director Quentin Tarantino has often talked of making a ‘Spaghetti Western’, and Django Unchained is his first offering. We see slave Django (Jamie Foxx) searching for his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), with the help of bounty hunter Dr. Schultz (Christoph Waltz).

Regular Tarantino cast member Samuel L. Jackson also appears, as does Leonardo DiCaprio as plantation owner Calvin J. Candie.

Tarantino films always create a lot of buzz upon release, and Django Unchained was no different. With many of the directors trademarks, including a long running time (165 minutes) and a bloody shootout, this is easily recognisable as a Tarantino film.

It may not be the greatest of his work, but the film has a lot to offer with a greatly detailed story.

Django Unchained is on 5Star at 22.50.
