Matt Damon stars in writer-director Alexander Payne’s pocket-sized sci-fi comedy drama about a couple who decide they’ll have a greater quality of life if they join the, ahem, growing number of people shrinking themselves to just five inches tall. The procedure, known as downsizing, is a novel solution to the havoc being wrought on the world’s resources by overpopulation and the benefits are awesome – money goes further, you can live like royalty in a huge mansion, you can consume whatever you like with little or no impact on the environment. So, Paul (Damon) and Audrey (Kristen Wiig) Safranek finally decide to go for it. Well, Paul goes for it, Audrey bottles it after he’s already been made small. And the process is irreversible. It’s a massive problem for a tiny guy, so enough with the small jokes. Can he make a life for himself small, skint and solo? Also starring Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau.
