His mum and dad face an agonising wait for the outcome of the operation. Consultant neurosurgeon Irfan confirms that ‘the damage to the spinal cord is very bad… and we can’t bring that back… it’s very sad to break this news’. Fifty-one-year-old Philip has paralysis from the waist down after his car collided with a bus. At the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Philip begins the long road towards rehabilitation. A 60-year-old man has crashed his moped into a wall, and London’s Air Ambulance rush him to The Royal London for immediate extensive trauma treatment. Some of the patients filmed across the series reveal their near-miraculous recoveries, made possible by the teams across the London Major Trauma System. Danilo is home again after life-saving surgery and pays tribute to ‘the heroes’ who saved him
