Six years ago, Dick and Angel Strawbridge transformed a magnificent 19th-century chateau in the French countryside into an incredible family home and a base for their wedding and events business. And although life is a little different in lockdown, Dick and Angel’s family adventure continues. With no guests to entertain at the chateau, the overhaul of the stunning orangery continues. It’s time for the interior to be put through its paces, and what better way to test it out than to celebrate Dick and Angel’s fifth wedding anniversary and their 10 years together. But this being a Strawbridge celebration, there’s nothing ordinary about it as all the family come together to build an open kitchen, create a pop-up restaurant and cook a menu of memories featuring dishes from Dick and Angel’s years together. And soon enough, Angel is printing on chocolate, Dick is hot smoking pigeon and the cappuccino being served is distinctly mushroom flavoured. As new memories are built, the family look back at the old, and Dick and Angel create a ‘photo de famille’ – a brilliantly organised treasure chest of photos crafted to ensure memories are never lost. The chateau also receives a special delivery – a fairy-tale carriage – and all the family want to look their best for the big event; even Petale is specially groomed. But before the party can commence, there’s one last element of the orangery to complete: the replacement of the missing finials on the highest point of the 150-year-old roof, where the view is breathtaking.
