Film of the day: Downsizing

Downsizing

Alexander Payne (Sideways) directs an intelligent sci-fi satire set in a world where – in a bid to lower their carbon footprint and get the best value from their money – people can be shrunk down to five inches tall.

Tempted by the life of leisure and luxury is down-trodden everyman Paul (Matt Damon), who sees it as an opportunity to escape his mundane existence and start fresh. However, he soon finds that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence and the problems of personalities and insecurities are as apparent for little people as they are for large.

It’s not a pacy film but it has its moments through its characters and dialogue and the odd visual funny.

Matt Damon stars along with Christoph Waltz, Kristen Wiig, Udo Kier and Jason Sudeikis.

Downsizing – Monday at 8.00pm on Sky Cinema Premiere.
