The unbelievable true story of Frank Morris, played by Clint Eastwood, as he arrives at maximum security prison Alcatraz – known as ‘The Rock’ because it sits on an island in the middle of the deadly San Francisco bay waters.

Morris and inmates Litmus (Frank Ronzio), English (Paul Benjamin) and the elderly Doc (Roberts Blossom) become friends and plan something that has never been done before: to break out and head for the hills.

They build a boat out of old raincoats and glue and construct various paper covers to hide their elaborate plan, but when the time comes to make the break, which will be able to hold their nerve among them?
