The young, ambitious and beautiful Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan) moves to live with her aunt in the Dorset village of Norcombe, part of author Thomas Hardy’s fictional Wessex. When she arrives in the village, she finds herself pursued by three suitors, who will not leave her be.

Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts) a sheep farmer, proposes marriage, but she declines. Their lives continue to intertwine however, and fate seems to keep bringing contrasting fortunes to the both of them.

Adapted by David Nicholls from the novel by Hardy’s novel. It features gorgeous visuals, music and superb acting from the ensemble surrounding Mulligan, including Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge and Juno Temple.
