This hard-hitting biographical exploration provides an insight into the lives of Winnie the Pooh creator A. A Milne and his son Christopher Robin Milne – who would become one of the earliest and most recognisable child stars in the modern era. Shining a light on the darker side to the Winnie the Pooh stories and the effects such profound success brought on Milne’s family, the film stars Domhnall Gleeson in its lead role with Margot Robbie, Alex Lawther and Kelly MacDonald co-starring.
After returning home from fighting on the frontlines of the Battle of Somme with severe shellshock, Alan Alexander Milne – nicknamed “Blue” by his friends and family – attempts to resume his life with an overpowering disdain for war, lending his talents to writing instead. After moving to the country and being left alone with his newborn son Christopher Robin, Blue begins to develop the Winnie the Pooh stories based upon his son’s imaginary friends.
Thrust into of a life of celebrity as a result of the books’ success, Milne’s wife, Daphne, flourishes while her husband and son struggle to come to terms their new lifestyle. Watching his chance at a normal childhood slip away and now with a tag which will stay with him for life, Christopher Robin begins to find the weight of fame to be too much to bear.
