After a spate of underwhelming films under Warner Brothers Pictures, comic book fans, and perhaps the more casual moviegoers too, would have hoped for a bright performance from DC’s eponymous answer to Marvel’s hit franchise The Avengers. With big names such as Henry Caville, Ben Affleck and Amy Adams as well as relative new-comers Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher, the film certainly had enough star power to live up to its blockbuster status. Reprising his role as DC’s leading director, veteran show-runner Zack Snyder returns to the helm for the newest addition to the DCU.
With Superman dead and a general uneaseiness descending upon society, Bruce Wayne – aka the Batman – is travelling the world, working to assemble a new team of heroes who can protect the planet in the event of another alien invasion. Cue the villainous Steppenwolf – an alien military commander and uncle of the iconic DC villain Darkseid – who pops up on earth in search of three motherboxes – a collection of ancient alien artifacts which he intends to use to begin an invasion of Earth. The newly assembled band of heroes must work together in order to thwart Steppenwolf and his army of parademons before they can exact their will on the world.
Justice League – Friday 8:00pm on Sky Premiere.
