The Bride, Uma Thurman, returns in the finale of Quentin Tarantino’s unrelenting revenge epic Kill Bill: Volume 2. Make no bones about it, if you didn’t find a place in your heart for Kill Bill or were repulsed by the violence and blood flourish, it’s unlikely you’ll get much out of its stablemate. However, if you are among the many faithful followers of the director who hoovers up cinema craft from every genre and fires it back at audiences, you’ll revel in this deliciously dark journey into the twisted mind of Thurman’s character as she seeks out and dispatches all who can lead her to the door of the man who jilted her at the altar and put a bullet in her head. He’s a sweetie, really.

Bill (David Carradine) is her former beau, principal target and, without giving everything away, a participant in the film’s denouement. Kill Bill: Vol 2 carries the hallmark of a Tarantino film but is delivered at a more calculated pace, making much better use of its choreographed fight scenes than KB and finding more time to explore the motives, backstory and characters through dialogue.
In short, a smart, thoughtful (in spite of copious amounts of violence), funny homage to genre movies hitched to the back of breathless revenge yarn. Bum-numbingly long, but well worth it.
