After serving time for selling cannabis to a uniformed cop, the naive, childlike innocent Ned (Paul Rudd) finds that he has lost both his home and his dog, Willie Nelson. Seeking somewhere to stay, he turns to his three sisters: Liz (Emily Mortimer), whose marriage to Dylan (Steve Coogan) is far from the rose-garden they like to project; Miranda (Elizabeth Banks), who will do anything, including exploiting Ned, to work for Vanity Fair; and Natalie (Zooey Deschanel), who is carrying on a risky flirtation with a male artist behind her lover Cindy’s (Rachida Jones) back. The trouble for all of them is that Ned doesn’t lie or understand when he’s being lied to. So it’s only a matter of time before his ingenuous worldview makes its mark on his sisters’ precariously balanced relationships.
