Film of the day: Sherlock Holmes And The Voice of Terror

Sherlock Holmes and The Voice of Terror

Pure black and white crime fighting brilliance from the Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce Holmes and Watson partnership. This intriguing propagandist romp finds the gentleman detective and his erstwhile companion mixing with the type of ruffians and ne’er-do-wells that nine times out of ten they’d see carted off to prison.

However, with a cell of Nazi saboteurs at large and a menacing radio broadcast – the titular Voice of Terror – predicting the demise and defeat of the United Kingdom, it is a case of all for one and one for all as the highest and lowest of British society come together to give Fritz a bloody good hiding (back when it was acceptable to talk like that).

Given all the shenanigans with Russian bots and sock puppet accounts allegedly influencing the EU referendum and the last General Election this particular matinee classic is a very welcome addition to the TCM schedule.

Film of the day: Sherlock Holmes And The Voice of Terror – Thursday 7.45pm on TCM.
