Francis Ford Coppola’s unique thriller sees Gene Hackman as Harry Caul – a paranoid and private man that cuts his phone, sets up alarms in his bare home, and only makes calls with a pay phone.

With his own surveillance company, Harry ends up with a few tough-to-swallow episodes in his career, including a wiretap job gone wrong in which three people were killed…

When Harry and his colleague Stan are tasked with bugging a couple as they walk through San Francisco’s bustling Union Square. Amid the noise and murmur of the crowd, Harry uncovers the hushed conversation of the pair, and a conspiracy is revealed.

The Conversation – Thursday at 9pm on BBC Four
