Film of the day: The Woman in Black

Woman in Black

Yes, it’s been on before but this is a chiller that deserves another viewing – or at least set the PVR and record it.

Daniel Radcliffe stars in this horror tale of supernatural goings-on in Victorian England. A lawyer from London, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe) travels to the desolate Eel Marsh House to settle an estate and prepare the property’s sale. Unfortunately, for Mr Kipps, his clients haven’t bothered to tell him that the house is home to a malevolent presence and has a dark secret.

Based on the chilling ghost story by Susan Hill, The Woman is Black is a first rate psychological scare movie foregoing the blood-spattered horror formula that seems so de rigueur these days instead building through atmospheric lighting and camera work to deliver a first-rate shocker that retains its hold on you right to the last.

Also starring Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer and Liz White.
