Film of the Day – Thor: Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok

The Avengers’ resident norse god crashes back onto the big screen with a spectacular explosion of combat, comedy and comic-book cliches. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as the god of thunder alongside Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Mark Ruffallo’s Bruce Banner. Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Tessa Thompson all make their MCU debuts.

After the events of the second Avengers film, Age of Ultron, Thor returns home to Asgard where he finds his half-brother Loki has assumed the throne under the guise of being Odin himself. It is then revealed that Odin is dying and hence Asgard will need a new ruler at which point the mysterious Hela – the bannished sister of Thor and Loki – appears, claiming the Asgardian throne as her own while beating anyone who stands in her way into submission. Thor flees his sister brutal ascension to the throne vowing to return with an army with which to liberate his homeworld.

Things take a turn for the worst, however, as Thor is captured and sold into slavery to the ominously named “master” of a distant planet, being forced to partake in gladiator matches. After meeting an unlikely ally in the pits, Thor must rouse an army of prisoners, escape his captors and free Asgard before his sister brings about Ragnarok.
