Film of the Day: Trainspotting (1996)

From the landmark novel by Irvine Welsh comes this cinematic landmark by director Danny Boyle. Trainspotting follows a group of young friends in Edinburgh, as they each live out their days struggling with heroin addiction.

We see them get into trouble, and out of it again, learn the names and personalities of the characters played by Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Kelly MacDonald, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller. However, while the film and its chic soundtrack and visual style may make the first acts comparatively light, eventually there are troubles the friends can’t get out of.

With death, disgrace and pain comes desperation. Eventually the boys find themselves embroiled in a complex scheme to win big through a huge drug deal. Their friendships and addictions might come in the way though…
