Creepy supernatural horror starring Sandra Oh, she of Killing Eve fame, that goes for slow psychological grind rather than cheap shocks.
Umma, which is the Korean word for “mother,” follows Amanda (Oh) and her daughter (Fivel Stewart) living a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.
You know nothing good is going to happen when the mum who traumatised you as a child turns up in a trunk and, sure enough, it isn’t too long before things start to get a bit weird and Amanda must confront her past. Not a bad debut from director Iris K. Shim.
Umma – from Friday 21 October on Sky Cinema and Now.
