Preview – X-men: Apocalypse

x-men apocalypse

Ahead of Dark Phoenix’s summer release, return to Bryan Singer’s revived X-Men universe with this 2017 action-adventure, which sees the titular band of superheroes face off against Oscar Isaac’s eponymous super-mutant, Apocalypse.

Heading up the cast are series regulars Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, who reprise their roles as best friends-turned-arch-rivals Magneto and Professor X respectively. Elsewhere Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult return as fan-favourites Mystique and Beast, while newcomers Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner star amongst a brand-new cast of fresh-faced mutants.

Following their heroics in Days of Futures Past – which precedes the film – we pick up in 1983 with Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert on an official CIA investigation in Egypt where a cult of shadowy figures attempt to wake an ancient, god-like mutant who’s been dormant for centuries.

The mutant, known as Apocalypse, does wake however and the X-men – out of contact with one another and spread across the world – must come together to defeat the ancient super villain and his “four horsemen” before they wreak havoc and bring destruction down on civilisation.

X-men Apocalypse – Saturday 9:00pm on Channel 4.
