Film Preview – The Death of Stalin

Death of Stalin

Armando Iannucci takes the helm of the riotously funny black comedy set in Soviet Russia; The Death of Stalin, backed by a star studded cast including Jason Isaacs, Michael Palin, Steve Buscemi and Jeffrey Tambour.

The film itself – a parody of the political chaos which ensued in the soviet government following the death of leader-turned-dictator Joseph Stalin – is a masterpiece of comic timing and old fashioned to-me-to-you slapstick, shifting seemlessly from unspeakable horror and unnerving menace to its aforementioned comedic qualities. Set in the aftermath of Stalin’s fatal heart attack, the cast is graduated into the plot one by one, each focused on a common agenda; to use the death as a ladder to elevate their own positions in the Soviet heirarchy and to ultimately emerge victorious above the rest as successor to their, now deceased, communist leader.

The Death of Stalin (2017) – Available on Sky store as of February 26th.
