Not to be confused with Raymond Briggs’ 1982 cartoon classic, The Snowman (2017) – directed by Tomas Alfredson – is an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s best selling, scandinavian noir crime novel, starring Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson.
The film tells the chilling tale of an alcoholic Oslo cop (Fassbender) and his new-to-the-job partner (Ferguson). The crux of the film lies in the disturbing prospect, after a murder is discovered during the first snowfall of winter, that the titular serial killer – so called because a freshly built snowman is found at the site of each grisly crime – may have resurfaced, prompting the two detectives to delve into the gruesome details of cases past and present in the hopes of outwitting their criminal adversary. The film boasts a strong supporting cast with Val Kilmer, Toby Jones and Chloë Sevigny featuring, while Charlotte Gainsbourg and JK Simmons are also included as Harry’s art dealer ex Rakel and sinister magazine editor Arve Støp respectively.
The Snowman – In Sky Store as of February 19th.
