The Hunger Games is the first film in a four-part series, based on the books by Suzanne Collins.
Set in a dystopian future, where society is divided into twelve districts – 24 children aged 12-18 are forced to fight to the death in a televised event each year, labelled The Hunger Games.
Jennifer Lawrence portrays Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the story, who volunteers to take her sisters place when she is randomly picked to take part.
Lawrence gives a brilliant performance throughout the entire film series, and this role rightly put her in the spotlight. This is not just a film for those interested in sci-fi; this is a film for those wanting an intriguing story.
The Hunger Games is on Film4 at 6.15pm.
Verdict
Entry level opener to Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novels and the most straightforward in terms of storyline. Good central performances and action choreography.
