Independence Day – Resurgence

Independence Day - Resurgence

Roland Emmerich’s sequel to his 1996 sci-fi action blockbuster. Twenty years after the first alien invasion, the nations of the world have co-operated with each other to build defences against any further extraterrestrial incursions. The safeguards include re-engineering left-behind alien tech and building a fortified space station on the Moon. Dr David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), who helped overcome the first attack, is sent to Central Africa to inspect an intact, though lifeless, alien spaceship. It’s discovered that, before its occupants were defeated in the previous war, it transmitted distress signals. When a sphere-shaped spaceship suddenly appears from a wormhole near the Moon, it is destroyed, despite Levinson’s protestation. Soon the earthlings realise that the aliens are heading their way again, in a mothership so huge that it creates its own gravitational field. And this time, the invaders are determined to finish the job they started decades before. The star-studded cast includes Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward. Edited for language and violence.
