Mark Wahlberg stars in writer-director Peter Berg’s drama about the bombing of the 2013 Boston Marathon. As April 15 approaches, the citizens of Maine and Massachusetts excitedly gear up for the Patriots’ Day public holiday, which in Boston focuses on the world’s oldest annual marathon. Police detective sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) isn’t looking forward to it because, in order to atone for a misdemeanour, he has been assigned to stand, in uniform and high-vis vest, on the finish line. And that places him right at the centre of the outrage committed by Chechen-born brothers Tamerlan (Themo Melikidze) and Dzokhar Tsarnaev (Alex Wolff). Berg’s narrative follows events as the FBI declares the attack a terrorist act and takes over the case, captures the confusion and horror experienced by witnesses and victims, and tracks the desperate manhunt for the perpetrators. With John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Jake Pickering and Jimmy O Yang.
