Episode 7 – Bastards and Broken Noses.
Last week’s instalment ended with the death of Laena Velaryon, who immolated (courtesy of her dragon Vhagar) shortly after giving birth to a dead son to her husband Daemon Targaryen. This week, it is the turn of her sibling Laenor (no spoilers). They say there is nothing like a good funeral to bring the family together. Unfortunately, when there is a throne at stake and so many skeletons in closets, it can also lead to some pretty tense standoffs, too.
Surprisingly, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) still breathes and is keen to heal wounds and continues to play happy families while his Queen, the previously demure Alicent (Olivia Cooke), supported by The Hand of the King, the returned/rehabilitated Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), has other ideas.
The snide slights, gossip and courtly tittle-tattle over the legitimacy of widowed Princess Rhaenyra’s kids are out in the open and over the course of tonight’s episode we learn that; A) The children of the King, Aegon and Aemond are king-sized douchebags; and B) There will be much blood spilt in the coming weeks.
Oh, and eligible two-time widower and everyone’s favourite uncle, Daemon, is back. Now what could that mean for the peace and prosperity of House Targaryen?
House of the Dragon – Monday at 9.00 pm on Sky Atlantic and Now.
