Series 1, Ep. 3/6 – Can Porn Be Good?
Mainstream porn can be problematic, and Cara wants to discover if there are more ethical, alternative types of porn that she can feel good about.
Working with director Erika Lust, who wants to change the porn industry for the better, Cara helps make an ‘ethical’ feminist porn film in Barcelona.
In Berlin, Cara visits the Schwules Museum, the first museum in the world dedicated to gay history, which holds the biggest collection of gay porn in Germany. She explores positive role models in gay porn and how important it is that it reflects all sections of society.
Cara travels to Tokyo to learn about boy-on-boy love comics for women; an erotic manga subculture defying the dark and degrading erotic pictures of women that are popular in Japan.
With many people watching porn on their mobile devices, accessing it is easier than ever. Scientists at the University of California in San Diego are trying to answer whether you can really get addicted to porn – and what the best treatment options for ‘problematic’ porn users are.
In New York, Cara meets a porn literacy teacher to discuss how the industry can give people a skewed sense of what sex and intimacy should be.
