The A&E department at St George’s Hospital in south west London is one of the biggest in Britain and, with an already stretched NHS, the department is struggling to care and see every patient.
Shedding light on the department, 24 Hours in A&E returns tonight for its 13th series. The first episode focuses on three young men from very different backgrounds. Shea, who’s 17, is brought to St George’s after a serious knife assault and Bob, who is also 17, has impaled his leg on a fence while taking a short cut home from his boy’s school in London.
Finally, 33 year-old James arrives by ambulance after fainting at home. He’s just been released after spending four weeks in hospital with a fractured skull as a result of a dissagreement on Brighton beach after a friend’s funeral.
