London hotels are known for throwing lavish parties and celebrations – the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel is no exception.
In the final episode of Channel 4’s A Very British Hotel, the film crew takes us behind the scenes of planning a launch party of writer Jilly Cooper’s new book, Mount. Serving an array and beautiful canapés and making sure a guest’s glass is never left empty, the staffs have a lot to do to make sure the event runs smoothly – tasks that include escorting a gatecrasher off the premises.
This week we also meet Hotel Ambassador Mr Bentley who has previously worked for the Savoy, Claridge’s and the Ritz before joining the team at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. He was responsible for the Queen hosting a special banquet in the ballroom the night before the wedding of Prince William and Kate.
Elsewhere is the hotel, refurbishment is underway and management auction of furniture raising almost £200,000 for the new work and at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal – the two Michelin starred restaurant in the hotel – executive chef Ashley Palmer-Watts and his team create a new dish and have to wait to hear whether they’ve retained their prestigious Michelin stars.
