Channel 4’s new series, A Very British Hotel, highlights the extremely high expectations of each guest. Barely receiving over the minimum wage, the staff work tirelessly to meet to high demand of their high-paying guests who pay more to have their socks pressed that the cleaning team make in an hour.
With its beautiful park surroundings, the hotel hosts over 70 weddings a year – this episode highlights the unusual requests from the wedding party, will no request being too much trouble.
This week we also meet Paul, a new member to the concierge team. Under the tutelage of veteran concierge Francois-Xavier, he must learn fast what it takes to be at the top of the five star game.
It is not uncommon for staff to take on the task of personal shopping as is demonstrated by Francois-Xavier when he is asked to source a watch worth over a quarter of a million pounds for one of his wealthy guests, but Francois’ dedication is not unnoticed, his hard work earns him a special award from the General Manager, Mr Sintes.
