Giles and Monica go to Giraffe Manor, a unique hotel where giraffes make up a not-insignificant percentage of the permanent residence. A 1930s Scottish-style hunting lodge on the edge of Nairobi National Park where breakfast guests include the namesake of the old hunting lodge.
Monica meets head chef David Kisevu and goes food shopping with him in the bustling Nairobi suburb of Rongai. The two hosts fly to the remote outpost, Sasaab Lodge – run by the Samburu tribespeople who make up most of its staff too.
It is an eye-opening look into the running of a unique, but occasionally familiar way of life, and shows us that although we may all speak different languages and live worlds away, everyone needs a roof over their head and a place to lay it down.
