David Attenborough is no stranger when it comes to eggs. One of his most famous early TV appearances witnessed him putting back together the shell of the egg of the extinct elephant bird.

In this programme Attenborough looks at the biology of eggs and asks several questions: how are eggs strong enough to support the weight of the parent, but weak enough to be broken from the inside? How can the birds inside the egg still breathe? Why do birds lay eggs in the first place? Hopefully, we can get some answers.

Attenborough’s Wonder of Eggs is on BBC Two at 20.00.
