It’s always good to see the BBC Proms dealing with more mainstream music, mainly because you get the feeling its really annoying people who listen to Radio 3.
Originally broadcast yesterday on the classical radio station, this is a selection of highlights of the music by American composer John Williams, the man behind the soundtracks to some of the biggest movies in history. He has won five Oscars for his work on Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Schindler’s List, but there is also his music for Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter. He is the second-most nominated person in the history of the Oscars, after Walt Disney.
While Williams is not in attendance, his long-time colleague Keith Lockhart will conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra in this concert.
BBC Proms 2017: John Williams Film Prom at 20.00 on BBC Four. The entire concert can be heard BBC iPlayer.
