Preview – Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049

Almost 35 years on from the debut of the classic Blade Runner film, Harrison Ford returns to the helm as leading man Rick Deckard in Denis Villeneuve’s spectacular sequel of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original. The sequel sees plenty of new blood introduced into the main cast with the likes of Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto donning the mantles of Blade Runner “K” and Niander Wallace respectively.

Set 30 years after the events of the first film, in 2049 Los Angeles, a replicant (bioengineered human) blade runner named K is tasked with hunting down rogue replicants who break away from their enslavement at the hands of the humans. K is ordered to retire one such replicant at a protein farm where, after carrying out his mission, he discovers that replicants can reproduce sexually – something which was previously thought impossible. With K’s superiors believing that this revelation could lead to a massive upheaval in society, the young Blade Runner is ordered to destroy all evidence of the revelation which, in doing so, thrusts him into a dangerous game of cat and mouse between the corporate elite, renegade replicants and an older drifter by the name of Rick Deckard.

Blade Runner 2049 – Friday 9:00pm on Sky Cinema (Sci-Fi and Horror).
