Up to 1000 incidents per day, resources cut by 15% but since 2010, and one incident manager with overall command. This is policing in 2019.
For the first time, this series goes inside the nerve centre of policing – the police communications and control centre colloquially known as Force Control – to shed fresh light on the changing face of law and order in modern Britain.
With violent and complex crimes on the rise across the UK, an increasing number of emergencies, and fewer resources to deal with them, this series shows the critical decisions made in Control and on the ground in Devon and Cornwall, the largest geographical policing area in England. It’s the Easter Bank holiday.
The weekend begins with a violent arrest, which uses up all of Paignton’s available response officers, then in Plymouth a man with ACAB (All Cops Are Bastards) tattooed on his neck is pulled over for failing to display his number plate. Sarah, the only dedicated traffic officer, is called to an accident in Exmouth, while her colleagues in Response must deal with the consequences of the weekend’s drinking across the two counties. By night-time the force is at full capacity when a stranger stabbing is called in and armed response teams are scrambled to search for the assailant.
Call the Cops: Chainsaw Jugglers – Monday at 9.00pm on Channel 4.
