Preview: Carabao Cup – Manchester City v Liverpool

Carabao Cup

Amazing to think at this point but we’re actually starting to think about football post World Cup, and the first competition to settle after the international break will be the last 16 of the Carabao Cup. Sky Sports will be across two of the round’s biggest matches, as two of the Premiership’s biggest rivals clash, and a Championship underdog takes on one of the top-flight’s greatest legacies.

Wednesday’s game will see Manchester United – five-time winners of the cup – take on current Championship leaders Burnley. The headlines may be focussed on a particular player’s inevitable departure, but United have had a strong season nonetheless and are a decent outside bet for the cup. Burnley on the other hand are on a roll in their league – losing only two matches all season – and are a shoe-in for promotion. It would be a mistake to write them off.

Then, to close out the round, it’s a face-off between one of the Premiership’s greatest rivalries. Reigning Premiership champions Manchester City host the defending Carabao Cup winners Liverpool in what we can expect to be another fiercely competitive match.
