Preview: Champions League Football

Uefa Champions League Qualifying

For Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, the return of Champions League football could be seen as a welcome distraction, however after securing only one point from their group fixtures so far, a win here is essential.

Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade are tonight’s opposition and having caused Liverpool to ‘lose their mojo’ at this stage last year, Spurs’ must be fully focused if they wish to avoid the ignominy of a group stage exit.

Also in action tonight, Manchester City will look to protect their 100% record and send a message of intent to Europe’s top clubs. City have been playing at a different level this season but have not necessarily had the rub of the green in their domestic fixtures. Has Pep shifted his focus to bring the elusive Champions League trophy to Eastlands? Unlikely, the citizens have  squad depth to envy and are more than capable of competing on multiple fronts. A home game under the lights – Atalanta beware!

Manchester City v Atalanta – 7.00pm on BT Sport 2.

Tottenham v Red Star Belgrade – 7.15pm on BT Sport 3.
