Please Remain Calm. Episode two of the five-part dramatisation of events leading up to and following the reactor meltdown at Chernobyl, the worst nuclear disaster in history.
This HBO/Sky Atlantic co-production could have been taken down the route of the all-action disaster extravaganza, which would have been a great shame as this drama has delivered a highly-charged, engrossing chronicle of the confusion of the citizens, bravery of the emergency services and the manufacture of different kinds of truth by the Soviet regime as the extent of the breach and the area of contamination began to emerge.
With millions at risk after the reactor explosion, nuclear physicist Ulana Khomyuk (Emily Watson) makes a desperate attempt to reach Valery Legasov (Jared Harris, pictured), a leading Soviet nuclear physicist, and warn him about the threat of second explosion that could devastate the continent.
Chernobyl – Tuesday 9.00pm on Sky Atlantic.
